Stepwise
Regression Add-in for Excel Installation instructions. For use with the book The Manager’s Guide to Statistics,
by Erol A. Peköz. NOTE: For
a one-time use you can just open the appropriate file below. To get it to
automatically load each time you start Excel, you must follow the instructions below.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MICROSOFT OFFICE 2003 ON THE PC: Click here to download
the 2003 version file "stepwise
regression" and save it to your C drive (you can also save it to the
desktop provided you don't later accidentally move or delete it). Then go to
the Excel menu tools/add-ins, and make sure you have the following two items
checked off: Analysis Toolpak, and Analysis Tookpak-VBA. Then click "Browse..." and then “all
files” in the file type line, and browse to find "stepwise
regression," and then click "Ok." You should now find the
commands "Stepwise regression", "Histograms", and
"Simulation" under the tools menu. If you get an error message you
may also need to go to Tools/Macro/Security/Security Level and check off
"Medium," and then re-start Excel.
If you get error messages it may not be compatible with your system. In
this case you should instead use the StatPro add-in,
the Analysis Toolpak that comes standard with Excel,
or the histogram/ regression spreadsheets linked at the bottom of the previous
page.
