SMGtools

Note: If you are experiencing any problems with Blackboard, please visit the ITS SMGtools help page, and then, if necessary, e-mail smgtools@bu.edu.

SMGtools allows faculty to manage their courses online. The system is built on Sakai, an open source platform developed in collaboration with other educational institutions interested in providing an enhanced learning environment for higher education. The Boston University School of Management is an official Sakai partner.

SMGtools was successfully piloted over the 2005-2006 academic year. The roll-out of SMGtools will happen in phases over the next year and will start with the incoming students in September 2006. All faculty are welcome and encouraged to use SMGtools for their course websites as Blackboard will eventually be retired. While the two course management systems are similar, there are distinct differences. You can view a detailed comparison of Blackboard and SMGtools features here.

To log into SMGtools, go to http://smgtools.bu.edu and enter your BU username (the portion of your BU email address that precedes the @ symbol) and your Kerberos password.
